Completely random thought.. I wonder what kind of music the baby will like? Kids usually hate the music their parents like. Current Music: David Bowie - Life on Mars | | Monday, February 2nd, 2009 | | 8:11 pm |
I got a colonscopy today. It was probably the worst one I've ever had. My body refused to cooperate. I did okay with the first 16 pills of the prep, but the last 12 were horrible. I just wanted to throw up. When I got to the endoscopy center I nearly passed out after they put the IV in. The nurse was about to bust out the smelling salts. The fun continued further when the doctor had to hold up injecting me with the twilight sleeping mediciation because they could not get a pulse since my fingers were so cold. I ended up having to wear a lame sticker on my forehead to keep track of my pulse. The test did not indicate any sort of problem from what he saw. So now I have a problem and he did not offer any suggestions (beyond from things that I have already tried) to help solve it. So frustrating. I explained to him that I want to start a family soon (within the next 12 months) and having this kind of problem will only get worse with pregnancy. He did not seem to have the time to discuss anything with me. It was so stupid. All that horrible prep for nothing (except to rule out that I don't have a polyp) Now I sort of know how parents must feel at the PTA meetings. They have things to say and us teachers only have 5 minutes per student to tell them about what's going on and about how their child is doing. Assembly line. I guess that's how it is for my doctor and my situation. Oh well. Time to put it BEHIND me... ha ha ha... Current Music: The White Stripes - White Moon | | Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 | | 9:42 pm |
when you fears subside you and shadows still remain
Chuck Klosterman reviewed the new GnR. Amusing stuff. I was never really a "fan," but I did have a certain fascination with their videos growing up. I never understood why or how Stephanie Seymour was killed off in the "November Rain" video. Why did half of her face look like it was made of plastic? In the "Don't Cry" video, why was Axl shaking and in cold sweats?! Furthermore, did he really stuff his junk to appear large in those biker shorts? GnR is a band with a lot of hype but not much in terms of delivery. Their new song that is on Rock Band sounds like every other piece of crap that is popular right now. Current Music: Guns N' Roses - November Rain | | Sunday, November 16th, 2008 | | 8:37 pm |
I am wishing for something really special this Christmas. And I'll just leave it at that. | | Sunday, November 2nd, 2008 | | 5:48 pm |

I'm really feeling old. I've been having a lot nostalgia lately about the 1990's. I have been listening to Liz Phair, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, and Primus non-stop for the past couple days on my iPod. Lots of musical gems. Underrated decade, in my opinion. | | Friday, October 24th, 2008 | | 9:41 pm |
Every year a new Saw movie is put out. Each year, they keep getting stupider and stupider. The kills were weak. In Saw IV, Jigsaw was susposed to be dead. Through flashbacks and a dimwitted plot, he's not actually gone. He's training a new helper. We saw the previews for My Bloody Valentine 3-D and Friday the 13th Part 11. (Or whatever it's called) They MIGHT be promising. I also saw a trailer for a new DVD, Trailer Park of Horror which looked pretty funny. I put it on my Netflix queue. I should be getting the new Troma flick Poultrygeist soon. I have been waiting for it for about 2 years now, ever since I met Lloyd Kaufman at the horror convention. The reviews have been pretty good.... so we shall see... Current Music: Paul Simon - Still Crazy After All These Years | | Sunday, October 12th, 2008 | | 9:34 pm |
I am not sure why people buy into status symbols like having fancy cars and homes. If people just lived within their means, perhaps the country wouldn't be in such terrible finanical trouble. I don't think I have faith in any of the current politicans to fix the trouble that the country has gotten itself into. Today was prime picking at the mega flea market. Desperate people are selling off their trinkets for cash. I benefitted from their loss by acquiring some new Halloween decorations. | | Saturday, October 11th, 2008 | | 6:14 am |
Writer's Block: Live from New York
I don't really watch new SNL now, except on YouTube. The first couple seasons were the best. Gilda Radner was the funniest for me. I loved all her quirky & loveable characters. Emily Loutella (sp?) and Roseann Roseannadanna crack me up! Belushi was also hilarious. I love the Samuari Warrior sketches. My favorite hosts were Steve Martin (King Tut!)and Madeline Kahn. Dana Carvey was pretty funny too. Hans & Franz, Wayne's World, and Church Lady sketches cracked me up. I wish he had a bigger career and still made good movies. | | Sunday, September 28th, 2008 | | 3:19 pm |

Life Update
I saw "Burn After Reading" last night. It wasn't as good as "No Country for Old Men," but still quality. Brad Pitt's character was super annoying. I had never really thought George Clooney was that hot, but I kind of changed my mind about him after this movie. He's hot in an old man sort of way. I put "Michael Clayton" on my Netflix queue. I finally got a document camera for my classroom. I am SO happy to have one. I will be able to do so much with it! I'm so glad to not have to use transparencies anymore. I hated wasting so much money and plastic on them. The Vis-a-vis pens smelled like fish. It's also great because I can just randomly plop up a kid's work for the class to view. I can read more picture books and project them on the screen so the kids can see them. Unlimited possibilities. I'm getting overwhelmed at work keeping up with the emails that I'm getting from parents. Lately, it's like I've been getting 10 a day (No, I'm not exaggerating. Literally, 10 or more) In some ways, it's better than making a ton of phone calls but I also feel compelled to answer back within a couple hours of the email being sent. It's kind of addictive. Been reading A LOT lately. I finished Marianne Faithful's new autobiography which put me to sleep. Currently, I'm 90% finished with Valarie Bertinelli's autobiography, "Losing It," which is surprisingly enjoyable. I still haven't read the Malcomn Gladwell book I got, which I need to finish before it's due date. I'm so excited for Tuesday because my after school library walking club starts. I have 12(!) kids that will be walking with me to the local library to check out books, give input to the libarians on which books to buy, and help design library displays. The amount of response has been awesome! I also put in a proposal to present at a conferences (yikes!) about arts & education. I think I'll be picked because there's a ton of people on the committee from my school. My grandfather is responding very well to his IV antibiotic treatment. He's getting stronger every day. Went shopping today. The Banana Republic Outlet had some great deals. I got a black silk shirt (just like the one I have in white) and a new brown cord mini skirt. Super cute. Disappointed with J. Crew lately. Overpriced and not that cute. The Gap has been equally disappointing lately. Need to do better with Weight Watchers. I have ate such crap today. Veggie Eggbeater Omelet & toast for breakfast, a whole turkey sandwhich for lunch, and a 93% lean hamburger that was left over from dinner this week. I should not have ate that whole turkey sandwhich for lunch. I was full after half, but for some stupid reason I was determined to eat it all. I need to stop eating at Dunkin' Donuts. I have become obsessed with their under 300 calorie veggie egg white flatbread. It's so freaking tasty and I have been getting them practically every morning this week before work. I eat them in the car while driving to work. Stupid decision because I'm not even really enjoying all that calorie intake while I'm driving. I need to be more mindful while I'm eating and actually sit down and enjoy it. I also got a Twix bar from the snack machine at work on Friday. I feel myself slipping into terrible habits that must stop. Ugh. Current Music: Kate Bush - Them Heavy People | | Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 | | 7:45 pm |
Work has been going well. I love teaching fourth grade. Sometimes I just can't believe that the students are actually listening and doing what I asked them to do the first time they were asked. I'm shocked at the kids and parents who want extra work to do at home so they can learn the material better. This is like a dream come true! I died and went to teacher heaven. | | Sunday, September 14th, 2008 | | 11:05 am |

Disney
Got back from Disney World on Friday evening. We had a good time. We did 6 parks (Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Islands of Adventure, Universal) in 4 days, which I think is very awesome. We did ALL the rollercoasters and major attractions. I am still exhausted! We would get to the parks when they opened each day. That really helped us. By 3pm each day, we'd be ready to go. Major thanks to Sasha for the Universal tickets. They were so helpful and because we didn't have to pay for them we were able to upgrade to the fast pass which was soooo helpful! Some of my favorite Disney rides were: Expedition Everest Space Mountain Snow White Tower of Terror Rockin Rollercoaster Universal favorites: The Mummy Popeye Rapids Ride (forgot the name) Terminator 3-D The Simpsons ride We had a fantastic lunch at the Sci-Fi Dine In which was an indoor drive in movie theater that showed goofy science fiction movies as we ate our food. It was one of our highlights. I also developed a mad addiction to Goofy Sour Worms. They were the most sour and delicious sour candies EVER! Our hotel, Saratoga Springs was pretty (and large!) Our room got upgraded, so we got this HUGE place that's probably equal in square feet to my actual house! It had a bubbling hot tub, a full kitchen, living room, huge master bedroom. I was very pleased with the hotel but I didn't like how things weren't labeled, so we never knew where we were going. Downtown Disney was a lot of fun. We ate dinner at the House of Blues and Planet Hollywood. We spent some time at the Virgin store which was very awesome. Now I need to rest up for next weekend. Mitch and I are going up to Baltimore to visit Cliff and Brandy. Cliff and Mitch are going to the horror convention. I don't think I'll be attending this year, since I was so disappointed with it last year. I really want to go to the Chiller convention in October held at the Meadowlands. Brandy and I are going to some kind of festival around where they live. Maybe we'll get in a little shopping too. Current Music: Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy | | Friday, August 1st, 2008 | | 8:13 am |
I'm getting excited about my trip to Disney World. We're leaving in three days and I am really hoping that we have a good time. ( We've planned out most of our trip: )So by big question floating in my head is: What would be the best way (without renting a car) to get from Disney (Saratoga Springs) to Universal? I had heard about Mears Transportation, but I read so many bad reviews online that I am afraid to go with them. Taxis can be very expensive and I'm sure I'd get ripped off. There's public transportion that I am aware of where I'd leave the Disney Transportation Hub and take the Lynx Public Transportation to Sea World which then hooks up to Universal. That seems like a lot of possible waiting and annoyance. | | Sunday, July 27th, 2008 | | 8:22 am |
My mom is cleaning up at her house to make room for my grandmother to move in when my grandfather passes away or gets put full-time into a nursing home. This tragic course of events has forced me to bring home my middle school/high school CD collection which had been living at her house. Looking through these CD's, I get nostalgic for the periods of time when I used to actively listen to these CD's. Highlights of my discovery: Bauhaus - Vol. 1 PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love Bjork - Post NIN - The Downward Spiral (I was a little drama queen) Rasputina - Thanks for the Ether David Byrne - Feelings I also found my plethora of Tori Amos CD singles, which I collected compulsively for many teenage years. I have to throw away the jewel cases on most of the CD's, but I have decided to try to keep these intact. There was a period of time when I was into ska music. Strange. The CD collection represents a time when I didn't know who the hell I was and the persona that I wanted to create. | | Saturday, July 26th, 2008 | | 8:54 pm |
Achieving Your Childhood Dreams
Randy Pausch gave an amazing final lecture before leaving his job as a professor due to cancer. He passed away yesterday. This video is all over the Internet right now, but I sat down and finally watched it from start to end. I cried (maybe I'm just emo right now) and I learned something about being a good teacher and a good human being. ( Randy Pausch - Achieving Your Childhood Dreams )

"some day knowledge is something sat in your lap"
Been listening to a lot of Kate Bush. I could never appreciate or understand her music. Her voice was grating. But now, she's grown on me. I can see how much Tori Amos was influenced by her. I like Kate Bush because she seems more genuinely strange than Tori Amos. And that girl can DANCE. Every video is more complex (dance-wise) than some of those boy bands that were popular in the late 90's. Case in point, this video, "Sat In Your Lap." I have watched it 10 times in the past day. Every time I watch it, I feel myself becoming more "advanced." Now if only iTunes would start carrying more of her songs! | | Sunday, July 20th, 2008 | | 7:51 am |
I saw two people recently that I hadn't seen in a couple years. They completely DID NOT recognize me. These were separate incidents in different locations. Eventually, one of them DID notice who I was. The other, I said hello to her and she didn't respond back! She just stared at me like I was a freak! I haven't changed that much... or have I? | | Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 | | 8:57 pm |
Going to NYC tomorrow with the kids from summer school. We're going to see The Lion King on Broadway. Friday is Splash Mountain Water Park. I'm excited for this all to be over with so I can get on with my summer. Anybody here ever visted Graceland? Mitch and I are thinking about going for before/after Christmas. What else is there to do in TN besides Graceland and Dollyland? Current Music: John Lennon - Grow Old With Me |
